APPLICATION tips/essay questions

It is important that participants and their parents/guardians understand that they are not a Level Up Scholarship Foundation recipients during the application selection process prior to submission of this application. Submission of an application is not a guarantee of an award. 

Applicants are evaluated on their teacher recommendation, community service and essay. Since the student essay carries the greatest weight in terms of possible points earned, the applicants effort should be concentrated on the essay portion of the application. 

Here are the categories we use to score the essay: 

• CONTENT: An essay with ample information including supporting details
• ORGANIZATION: An organized well developed beginning, middle and end
• STYLE /MECHANICS & USAGE: Interesting, varied, imaginative. 
• FOCUS: Appropriate information to make  the reader clearly understand the ideas being presented. 
• 500 words minimum, 

Essay questions choose one:

• What does it mean to your family, and community continuing your higher education? Are you the first generation attending college?
• Throughout your educational journey thus far, which individual has made the biggest impact on your life?  Explain why and what qualities about them do you admire? How would this scholarship help you?
